EFB webinar „City Strategies to Support Building Greening“

This webinar hosted by the European Federation of Green Roof and Living Walls Associations (EFB) provides insights on city strategies to support building greening.


The European Federation of Green Roof and Living Walls Associations (EFB) represents the umbrella organisation for all Green Roof and Wall Associations in Europe.  Our goal is to spread awareness and available information about green roofs and walls. The EFB started a series of online seminars to introduce the audience to various topics concerning green roofs and walls. These include important topics such as the combination of green roofs an photovoltaik, the impact on biodiversity, the succesful implementation of green infrastructure in various regions as well as the quality assurance of these. Speakers:

  • Rebecca Gohlke (Germany) – Vice-President of the EFB, Project Manager at BuGG – Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e.V.
  • Pavel Dostal (Czech Republic) – Vice-President of the EFB, Board Chairman of ZeS – Zelené střechy, CEO of GreenVille.

Moderator:

  • Dusty Gedge (United Kingdom) – Ambassador of the EFB, independent green roof and urban biodiversity professional working with Gentian Ltd.

Rebecca Gohlke from Germany will discuss municipal funding instruments for green roofs and façades. Her presentation will cover the varying levels of expertise and handling of funding instruments among cities, as well as the multiple benefits of building greening. She will outline both direct financial subsidies and indirect promotion methods, highlighting a comprehensive municipal promotion strategy that includes demanding, promoting, and informing. The current state of funding opportunities in Germany will also be presented.

Pavel Dostal from the Czech Republic will address the benefits of green roofs and walls, which are often privately funded despite their societal advantages. His presentation will explore the need for regulation and incentivization of building greening at municipal and national levels. Using various examples, he will discuss traditional and novel approaches to supporting building greening initiatives by both public and private sectors.
